Jeremy, thank you so much. A coffee and conversation would be lovely, but we will have to settle for this little online world for now! Great to hear from you and I hope you're keeping well.
Thank you, Eli! I greatly appreciate you reading and dropping into the comments - always nice to hear from others who are thinking about the same problems in the world.
oh the irony of me reading this in the wee hours of the night on a screen when sleep would probably be wiser (but my brain got bored with the book and lured me into my screen)
I admit it is a bit ironic that I promote not being on a screen and then publish essays that can solely be read on a screen. Though I'd argue reading essays in bed is better than scrolling instagram!
A thorough summary of what ails us, Jack. Thanks for pointing out our agency pitfalls and for roadmapping connective solutions. I would add buy an uncomfortable couch. Love Dad.
Well written. I agree we are an overprescribed society. School systems promote medicating our kids to receive state funding for paraprofessionals in the classrooms. We had this experience when our 3rd grade son who is now 31 yo finishing his PhD in crop genetics was told he had ADHD. I, too, said “Hell No!” to meds. Thanks for this read. I hope others will follow your words.
Thanks so much for reading and sharing this personal story, Stan. Congratulations to your son on his PhD! That is a huge accomplishment. He is a prime example of what I am trying to advocate here.
Yes, yes, yes!
Thanks so much for reading, Ari!
I could talk about this topic for hours and if you were in the States, I'd love to buy you a coffee to do so with you. Glad to see you back, Jack.

I’ve been coming back to this one… great piece.
Thanks so much, Colin. Great to hear from you and means a lot that this one resonated.
Hear, hear! You’ve put into words what I’ve been thinking since the pandemic (and said it much better than I ever could!)

Thanks for reading, Dad. An uncomfortable couch would certainly help! Love you.
